​I am a Liverpool-based freelance journalist and audience development consultant.

 

As a journalist, I predominantly write about arts and heritage subjects for a range of publishers, with bylines in the BBC, The Mirror, the Metro, all Reach Plc regional titles including the Liverpool Echo and Manchester Evening News, The Stage, The Lead and my own North West arts and culture newsletter, Stored Honey. I was previously Arts Editor of both the Liverpool Daily Post and Liverpool Echo.​​

I also write content for a range of clients including arts organisations and funding bid consultants. Recent clients include Theatr Clwyd and via Headland Design Associates. I also work on oral history projects and podcasts.

My consultancy work involves helping organisations better understand and connect with their audiences, including:

  • Developing newsletter strategies with clients, helping them increase their subscriber numbers, improve open rates, run re-engagement. campaigns and comply with GDPR best practice.

  • ​Public, audience and stakeholder consultation through workshops, surveys and interviews.

  • Helping clients identify useful KPIs and use them to build a content strategy that will engage their audiences.

  • Drawing up SEO strategies and content plans to increase page views referred by Google.

  • Running training sessions on newsletter strategy, pitching ideas to the media and SEO for clients including The University of Liverpool, the Scottish Beacon, Open Culture and the Independent Community News Network.

  • Putting together PR plans that focus on getting compelling stories to the right  journalists and publishers.
